On April 15, 2020, at approximately 12:30 AM, Shelby County 911 received a report of a residential fire in the 100 block of Bethlehem Church Road, in the community of Shelby. Deputies from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, members of the Shelby Volunteer Fire Department and Kingdom Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene and discovered a male outside the residence suffering from burns and smoke inhalation. He was transported by helicopter to a local hospital for treatment. After further investigation, two females were found deceased inside the residence. The Alabama Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting with the investigation into the cause of this fire. The preliminary investigation indicates the fire was not related to a criminal act.
Sheriff John Samaniego stated, “Our thoughts and prayers are with this family and their friends as we are saddened by their loss. I want to thank the Shelby Volunteer Fire Department, the Kingdom Volunteer Fire Department, the Shelby County Coroner’s Office, Haynes Life Flight, and the Alabama Fire Marshal’s Office for all of the assistance received during this tragic incident.”
