***Update*** Revised Operational Changes Due to Covid 19

Revised Information Regarding Sheriff’s Office Services During COVID 19

Our deputies will continue to maintain their normal patrols across the county and will be responding to all calls for service. If you have an emergency, dial 911.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office has extended its precautionary measures to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Normal operations are scheduled to resume on MONDAY, JUNE 1, 2020.  Until then, the Sheriff’s Office front lobby will continue to be closed, and some services will continue to be modified to ensure we are promoting the guidelines designed to prevent the spread of this virus until this date. This closure also includes the North substation located on Hwy 280, as well as the substation in Chelsea. This is an update to the original reopening date that was scheduled for May 11.

To obtain a copy of an Incident Report or an Accident Report, please send an email to with your name, phone number, case number, report type, and report date. If email is not available, you may call our Records Department at 205-669-3854.

For inmate release or bond information, please call the Shelby County Jail at 205-669-3938. Family and friends of those incarcerated at the Shelby County Jail can conduct remote video visits. This virtual meeting platform will continue to allow video-visitation through the internet without citizens having to come to our main office. Inmates will be allowed to schedule one free video visitation each week. To schedule a video visitation, go to

We will continue to accept pistol permit applications and renewals through the mail, with payment submitted by check to P.O. Box 1095 Columbiana, AL 35051. If you are renewing a Shelby County pistol permit, please send your renewal notice or old permit card with your payment, you do not need to send a new application. The application is available online at Cash is not accepted, please only send a check or money order made payable to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
