(COLUMBIANA, AL) On April 23, 2022, at approximately 3:30 PM, Shelby County 911 received a report of a possible drowning in the area of Slab Road in the Pea Ridge area of Shelby County. Deputies from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office along with rescue personnel from the Pea Ridge Volunteer Fire Department and Southeast Shelby Rescue responded to the call for assistance.
The male victim was recovered from the water; however, lifesaving efforts provided by individuals on scene and by medical personnel were unsuccessful. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim has been identified as Brayden Harden, 19 years old of Leighton, Alabama.
As part of standard procedures, investigators from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mr. Harden’s death. The Shelby County Coroner’s Office was also notified and responded.
“My heart is with the family and friends of Brayden Harden during this tragedy,” stated Sheriff John Samaniego.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office would also like to express its appreciation to the Calera Fire Department’s Dive Team for their personnel and equipment that aided in the recovery.
